Transferring .uk and .co.uk domains

Unlike global domains (.com and .net) which use authorisation codes, transferring UK-specific domains relies on a a unique system called an IPS tag.

What is an IPS tag?

An IPS tag (Internet Provider Security tag) is a unique label assigned to every authorised UK domain registrar by Nominet, the official registry for .uk domains. 

Step-by-step transfer process

Follow these steps carefully to ensure a seamless handoff:

• Use this tag: To transfer to Bytespace, you will need to use NAME-COM as the IPS tag.
• Change the tag: Log into your current provider (GoDaddy, 123-Reg, etc), navigate to your domain settings, find "Change IPS tag", and enter the new one.
• Once changed: Please submit a ticket, and let us know the domain name that you are transferring, so we can place it in your account.

Note: The transfer of .uk, .org.uk, and .co.uk domains is free of charge, but does not include a renewal of the domain name.

For transfers away from Bytespace, please ask your current registrar what their IPS tag is. Then submit a ticket with your domain name and IPS tag so we can make that change for you. The request for the IPS tag change must come from the email on file for that domain listed with Nominet at the registry level, not the email address in your Bytespace account. To update the contact information for UK domains, log into the Nominet Online Service Center where you can make the changes yourself.
